Discrete Estimation of Data Completeness for 3D Scan Trajectories with Detector Offset

چکیده
The sequence of source and detector positions in a CT scan determines reconstructable volume and data completeness. Commonly this is regarded already in the design phase of a scanner. Modern flatpanel scanners, however, allow to acquire a broad range of positions. This enables many possibilities for different scan paths. However, every new path or trajectory implies different data completeness. Analytic solutions are either designed for special trajectories like the Tam-window for helical CT scans or do not incorporate the actual detector size such as Tuy’s condition. In this paper, we describe a method to determine the voxel-wise data completeness in percent for discretely sampled trajectories. Doing so, we are able to model any sequence of source and detector positions. Using this method, we are able to confirm known theory such as Tuy’s condition and data completeness of trajectories using detector offset to increase the field-of-view. As we do not require an analytic formulation of the trajectory, the algorithm will also be applicable to any other sourcedetector-path or set of source-detector-path segments.

Data Completeness Estimation for 3D C-Arm Scans with Rotated Detector to Enlarge the Lateral Field-of-View
In this paper, we describe a method to enlarge the field-ofview of those scan modes by rotating the detector such that instead of the detector width the diagonal of the detector limits the lateral field-of-view for a Short and two Large Volume Scan trajectories. After implementation of the modifications we obtain a gain of 25.8 % in field-of-view diameter accompanied by a simultaneous loss of h...
متن کاملFiltered-backprojection reconstruction for a cone-beam computed tomography scanner with independent source and detector rotations.
PURPOSE A new cone-beam CT scanner for image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) can independently rotate the source and the detector along circular trajectories. Existing reconstruction algorithms are not suitable for this scanning geometry. The authors propose and evaluate a three-dimensional (3D) filtered-backprojection reconstruction for this situation. METHODS The source and the detector trajecto...
متن کاملImproved Trajectories in C-Arm Computed Tomography for Non-Circular Fields of View
In C-arm computed tomography, the field of view (FOV) is often not sufficient to acquire certain anatomical structures, e.g. a full hip or thorax. Recently proposed methods to extend the FOV use a fixed detector displacement and a 360◦ scan range to double the radius of the FOV. These trajectories are designed for circular FOVs. However, there are cases in which the required FOV is not circular...
متن کامل2D filtered backprojection for fan-beam CT with independent rotations of the source and the detector
A cone-beam CT scanner has recently been developed for radiotherapy imaging where the source and the flat detector can rotate independently along concentric circular trajectories. This paper investigates the reconstruction of the central slice of this system. A new filtered-backprojection algorithm has been derived that only modifies the weighting schemes of the projections and the backprojecti...

PURPOSE In this report, the authors introduce the general concept of the completeness map, as a means to evaluate the completeness of data acquired by a given CT system design (architecture and scan mode). They illustrate the utility of completeness map by applying the completeness map concept to a number of candidate CT system designs, as part of a study to advance the state-of-the-art in card...
